Wood day

8 cords, delivered.  3 cords more or less, left from last year.  Nice view from the kitchen roof, though.

  1. It never ends, does it? I'm so glad all that's behind me now.

  2. Considering the exercise involved (unless you want to contemplate a 250 lb. Ms. Mittens), and the cost of oil for a house this size, it's a hell of a bargain. And the immense satisfaction in November when the shed is full, there's still wood outside, and bread to be baked. It ain't all bad.

  3. I see you put your wood on pallets, thats very smart as it lets air under it and slows down the wood rot. I should have thought of that. After my wood lays on the ground for a year, the bottom layer is damp and beginning to decay.

  4. thanks, harvey. We are seeing a lot of places that used to give away these things now selling them--may be they aren't getting stuff delivered on pallets as much, I dunno. We've even resorted to using scrap lumber to construct our own.

and it does make a huge huge difference, even though most of our wood is only on the ground for six months, it does get muddy and takes forever to dry out
